We’re entering the third week of the MinsgameBOSS – double digits from here on out. Yikes! A quick summary of the game is that you get rid of 1 item on the first day of the month, 2 items on the second day of the month, and so on until you get rid of 30 items on November 30. If you’re doing it as one person, at the end of the month you will have let go of 465 things. If you’re trying to get your family of 5 to do it with you, you’re foolishly ambitiously trying to get 465 x 5 = 2,325 items out of your home.
Week 1 Recap in Pictures:
We had full participation by the whole family through week 1. That means we donated, trashed, recycled 140 items in the first week of the minsgameBOSS!
Week 2 Recap in Pictures:
I did days 8, 13, and 14 solo, but the rest of the other days we did as a group. In Week two, we recycled, donated, or trashed 245 items.
Adding the items from week 1 and week 2 together gives us a grand total of 385 items for the minsgameBOSS so far. Whew!
Looking Ahead
It’s going to be a challenge to keep the family engaged throughout the rest of the month, but I’m going to do my best. It’s difficult to motivate every other member of the family to participate every day, so I’ve been working with one or two of my sons to go through books and toys together.
My husband has been really engaged in the process when he participates and that has been really encouraging to see. For days 10 and 11, he took all the cd’s off our cd rack and put the cd’s into a binder that we have. We recycled over 105 cd cases.
The daily game has made me more aware of my surroundings and motivated me to deal with the small piles that are still sitting around. My hope is that in the next two weeks we can make a couple of family efforts in the basement and make our numbers for the month. I’m posting daily photos on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I’d love you to follow along!
What have you decluttered lately?
This post will be shared at these link ups.
Wow, when you look at the pics all together, it really gives you an idea of how much stuff you’ve gotten rid of so far! Sounds like the fam is doing pretty awesome job of keeping up!!
They are! I’m proud of them!
I love how you’ve gotten your family involved! Great work!
Thanks Heather!
This is amazing!! And condensing the cd’s is definitely a feat. Very impressed with you guys!
Thanks Liz!
These posts are always so inspirational! I plan on cleaning out my closet this weekend – hopefully I can actually get to it!
Let me know how it goes Alexandra!
I love your photo collages! It’s crazy to think about how much stuff I might have just sitting, unused, around my house.
I know Abby – especially when you consider the tiny things just lying around like a
Screws, miscellaneous items, and wires!
Hi Angela! I’ve been enjoying seeing your decluttering pictures. Making it a game is a great way to stay motivated. I am working on a whole house declutter and I can honestly say that I feel like my house is feeling “lighter.” There seems to be less stress and it is becoming easier to keep clean. I struggle with cleaning up spaces and then having family members seeing those empty spaces as places to put their clutter………but I’m working on that. As always, thanks so much for linking up at Let’s Get Real and inspiring others to make healthy changes in their lives.
Hi Christina! I’m glad I’m not the only one who struggles with family members “sabotaging” (too strong a word?) our efforts. I find some members of the family are worse than others! They are learning slowly but surely and it’s feeling more like a group effort more than not. One step at a time!
Wow, you all are making great progress! It’s crazy to look at the photos and think of how much stuff I probably have around the house that I could be getting rid of too. I may have to try this once January rolls around. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Hannah! You definitely should try it – it’s helpful to ease into it with the low numbers at the beginning of the month. Let me know if you try it in January.
Seeing your numbers makes me wish I’d kept count of everything during my decluttering adventures. I’m really excited for you that you’re making such great progress and that the boys (big and little) are getting involved!
Hi Stella! I wish I had kept more careful count as well when I first started decluttering – at that point though I was just eager to get as much stuff out of the house as quickly as possible. Thinking back though it would have be fun to know how many bags or van loads or some general measurement to quantify how much stuff has been donated or trashed.
