Are you waiting for “the perfect storm” of events to happen before making a change that you’ve wanted to make for a long time? If so, read on my friend. Find out why you should begin on your transformation story TODAY!
Frumpy to Fabulous
I grew up in a household of three girls. We watched our fair share of movies, and romantic comedies were some of our favorites.
I especially loved the scenes when they transformed the main character from frumpy to fabulous – all in a matter of minutes! The music has us on the edge of our seats as we hold our breath waiting for the main character to turn around. He or she is completely transformed and we are all in awe.
The problem (or problems – let’s be honest!) with watching these kind of movies as a young impressionable teenager is that we can come to internalize the message that change comes from outside of us; change happens suddenly; or you can only experience transformation if you look a certain way.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Flash forward 20 or 30 years and as a mom of young children, I was watching Ty Pennington on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, wishing that someone would send us on a wonderful vacation and give us a beautiful home that was clutter free and had an open floor plan.
It turns out that life doesn’t work that way. Fairy godmothers and pixie dust are hard to find outside of movies and television.
It turns out that this is actually a good thing. Not relying on some force or person outside of ourselves helps us to finally see that we can create change for ourselves.
How to Transform Your Life Without a Fairy Godmother
You can read the my “transformation story” over at Break The Twitch. It’s called “How to Transform Your Life Without a Fairy Godmother” It’s about how I started to change my life by adding in one small habit at a time.
Everyone loves a good story – especially when it involves a massive transformation.
I’m a sucker for those movie sequences where the main character transforms in front of our eyes and changes from down and out to downright prosperous.
Cinderella.
Pretty Woman (I’m dating myself here).
If we’re honest with ourselves, we would love for some fairy godmother to come and wave a magic wand to transform some part of our lives. We desperately want a healthier body, a decluttered home, and loving relationships. We look at where we are today and where we want to be and the path looks wwwaaaaayyy beyond what we can do on our own. We feel hopeless and continue living life the way we’ve always lived it.
What I didn’t know several years ago is that we all have a “magic wand” inside of ourselves to create the change we so desperately desire.
My Transformation Journey – the First Step
In 2012 I was working part time. My two oldest sons were in school. My youngest son was home with me on my two days off. I felt lethargic and overwhelmed.

Thanks so much Sofie! I’m a big fan of Anthony’s blog as well. Thanks for reading and commenting!
What a great and inspiring post!! I know the feeling of waiting around for a fairy godmother but sometimes you need to take the bull by the horns and do it foryourself! #twinkletuesday
Yes! I agree Emma. We have it within ourselves to make the change!
I loved Cinderella and Pretty Woman too–and don’t forget My Fair Lady (though she did at least have to put in some work)! In theory, the sudden transformation seems lovely, but in my heart of hearts, I know that real transformation happens from within and over time. My transformation this year has been gradually becoming more mindful, learning to be in the moment and accepting that moment for what it is–not wishing for some other “perfect” version. Thanks for this important reminder. I found your post on Over the Moon. I’m headed over to check out Break the Twitch now.

I love that Christie. Being more mindful and accepting of the present is something I’ve been growing in as well. Thank you for sharing – I really appreciate it.
I just love the title of this. I need to do this! I’m a frump…but fabulous when I go out 😉 #Dreamteam
